Reach the Doux straight from the campsite, by way of its natural fine-sand beach. Admire it from the Banchet viaduct, climb up to the Montagne des Trois Croix, or discover the gorges from the rail bike.
The Doux valley offers a range of landscapes as picturesque as they are welcoming, between unspoilt gorges, forests, pastures and orchards. Set in the heart of the green Ardèche, it stretches from the famous hillsides of Tournon-sur-Rhône in the east to the gateway of the Monts d’Ardèche regional park, towards Saint-Agrève in the west, and from the peaks of Lalouvesc and Annonay in the north to the sporting little town of Saint-Félicien in the south. It is from there that some fifteen thousand cyclists set off, in mid-June, on the famous Ardéchoise.
A natural and cultural heritage
The tourist appeal of the green Ardèche rests on a varied heritage. With 750 km of waymarked paths to walk as a family or with fellow athletes, a whole range of splendid landscapes in every season and generous orchards heavy with fruit, the clear-watered Doux valley is extended by magnificent gorges and followed by the Train de l’Ardèche, a steam-hauled tourist railway: the famous Mastrou.
The green Ardèche is also home to a renowned wildlife park, the Safari de Peaugres, and to tourism professionals who keep up the tradition of a warm welcome.
Food and drink
You cannot pass through the region without tasting its local produce: fruit, chestnuts, cheeses, charcuterie and great appellation d’origine contrôlée wines. Chestnut cream, goat’s milk picodon, Ardèche charcuterie, local beer — Ardèche cooking is not to be missed.
We keep a list of our producers and favourite addresses.
